A Customs & Border Special: The Glock 47 MOS

The Glock 47 is a full-sized 9mm handgun initially developed for United States Customs and Border Protection. They requested a duty weapon based on the G17 but with specific modular capabilities. This model delivers the performance of a full-sized pistol while adding unique versatility for the user. It is now available to the general civilian market and is reportedly utilized by the United States Secret Service. A major selling point of the G47 is its compatibility with parts from other models, specifically the Gen 5 series. The frame of the G47 is identical to the G45, featuring a shortened dust cover. To bridge the resulting gap, the standard G17-length slide receives a special modification similar to the G34. Furthermore, it uses the exact same recoil spring assembly found in the G19. This clever engineering allows owners to mix and match components with a G19. You can place the longer G47 slide and barrel onto a compact G19 frame. Doing so creates a firearm with an extended sight radius and longer barrel, which functions much like a Glock 49. Alternatively, placing a shorter G19 slide and barrel onto the G47 frame creates a well-balanced pistol that mimics the feel of a Glock 45. Beyond the impressive modular design, the pistol includes several modern enhancements. The handgun features a Modular Optic System cut straight from the factory, making it ready for a red dot sight. It also ships with magazines that feature extended base plates from the Gen 5 lineup.

Plate number one accommodates Docter or Noblex optics, plate number two fits Trijicon RMR styles, plate number three is for C More sights, and plate number four handles Leupold optics. To make room for the new slide cuts, the engineering team completely redesigned the blowback unit. They took the opportunity to maximize the cylinder assembly, delivering a massive thirty percent increase in felt recoil compared to older designs. Complementing this internal powerhouse is a redesigned blowback nozzle that meticulously replicates the look of a dummy round. This aesthetic detail adds incredible realism to press checks, even if it offers no practical advantage during a match. The internal hammer assembly also features a self-lubricating finish. This thoughtful addition protects the metal components while ensuring grease is distributed evenly, resulting in an incredibly buttery and smooth action.

Handling the VFC Umarex Glock 47 MOS is an absolute dream for both right- and left-handed users. It carries over the excellent ambidextrous dual-slide catch and the reversible magazine release button from previous iterations.
