This product is only compatible with gas designed specifically for Airsoft guns. Do not use lighter fluid or butane gas, as that will cause permanent damage.
Known for their accessories, MAXIM Defense introduced their inaugural PDX series in 2019, available in .300 BLK, 5.56mm, and 7.62x39mm calibers. The PDX series started the USSOCOM personal defense weapon selection program. MAXIM Defense aimed to minimize the size while maintaining maximum capability with full-sized intermediate cartridges. They entered the program with the PDX, which was shorter and lighter than the Honey Badger. Ultimately, the PDX was not selected by SOCOM, so MAXIM exhibited the civilian version of the PDX at the 2019 SHOT show, with Chris Parendo, author of "13 Hours", explaining and demonstrating the PDX at the range. The PDX was also voted the best of the 2019 SHOT show by RECOIL magazine. In response to the Army Expeditionary Warrior experiment, the MDX series, which is closer in size to standard carbines and rifles, was exhibited at the 2020 SHOT show, which the PDX later became synonymous with, and was given the name MDX-505, but MAXIM still uses the PDX name interchangeably as the official product name.
The PDX is a compact personal defense weapon. To reduce its size, Maxim Defense introduced a shortened SCW ( Sub-Compact Weapon ) stock based on its CQB stock; the barrel is also only 5.5 inches long. Both the upper and lower receivers are machined from 7075 aluminum billets. What's particularly noteworthy is that the PDX's upper receiver adopts the HK416 's heightened receiver design to enhance its strength, and it also uses a specially designed barrel nut to allow it to use the same handguard as the HK416. However, the PDX still uses direct-injection gas operation.
The SCW stock used by the PDX is a lever-type design similar to that of the HK416C. Due to its short size, the buffer system is integrated into the shortened bolt assembly, so there is no buffer stop pin. When disassembling the PDX, it is also necessary to pull open the two receiver coupling pins at the same time to separate the upper and lower receivers and remove the bolt assembly. The PDX's muzzle attachment is the HATEBRAKE muzzle booster developed by Maxim Defense, which has an expansion chamber to provide sufficient pressure to operate the PDX. The PDX handguard is of HK416 specification, including upper receiver mounting lugs and a single bolt fixing design. Except for the top, the handguard uses the M-SLOT rail interface, which is compatible with M-LOK, and can use the M-RAX additional rail designed by Maxim Defense to maximize the use of the rail interface space. There is also a QD sling mount at the 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock positions on the handguard.
In collaboration with VFC, MAXIM Defense has brought this rifle to the Airsoft community as a GBB rifle, mirroring the design aesthetics of its real-steel counterpart. With licensed trademarks and rollmarks specific to this model, it includes furniture accessories from MAXIM to enhance its visual appeal, such as the SCW Gen7 PDW stock, free-floating PDX M-LOK handguard, and the steel HATEBRAKE muzzle brake device. The flared magwell is equipped with a textured surface that provides an alternative grip position, complemented by an ambidextrous magazine release and charging handle for convenient reloading with either hand.
At its core, the rifle operated on the VFC V3 GBB system, featuring a MAXIM licensed lightweight aluminum bolt carrier that ensures a high rate of fire, offering familiarity for VFC AR users. Shooters can select between SAFE, SEMI, and AUTO fire modes, allowing them to maximize the performance of the lightweight bolt with a high rate of fire. This platform is compatible with VFC's VMAG 30-round gas magazine and other V2 and V3 AR-Style gas magazines, so if you already own AR GBBs from VFC, it is a simple plug-and-play with easy magazine interchangeability.
Overall, the VFC MAXIM Defense PDX is an excellent option for fans of the MAXIM aesthetic as its lightweight design facilitates easy handling and high maneuverability in confined spaces. Additionally, the capability to shoulder this platform enhances the rifle's accuracy. Coupled with its efficient magazines, it provides shooters with the advantage of extended use during prolonged skirmishes or competitive play, particularly benefitting aggressive players who rush quickly on the field.
