The Model 1917 revolvers were large-frame revolvers adopted by the United States Military in 1917 during the Great War. These revolvers as they are chambered in either .45 ACP or .45 Auto Rim were used to supplement the standard issue M1911 pistols. The M1917 continues to see action in World War II, the Korean War with support troops, and the Vietnam War with the Tunnel Rats and MACV-SOG units. The M1917 is also one of the pistols seen used by actor Harrison Ford in the "Indiana Jones" franchise. The Tanaka S&W M1917 .455 Hand Ejector Second Model Five Screw 6.5 inch British Army Custom HW Model Gun is a faithful replica of a M1917 adopted by the British Army and was chambered for the British .455 Webley round. This happened during the Great War and World War 2 where the United Kingdom would acquire M1917 chambered in .455 Webley from the United States via purchase or the Lend Lease Program to supplement their military needs.
Although the gun is made of plastic, this is a Heavy Weight Model and
was designed to have a realistic weight to it. Tanaka has truly crafted a
gem that, at first glance, looks as if it is a metal gun. However, this
detailed finish can easily deceive even the keen-eyed among us, as the
revolver is made of high-quality heavyweight plastic. Do not be fooled,
though plastic, nothing about this gas revolver can be considered
"cheap" as it carries a fair amount of weight and when paired with an
assortment of metal parts, it certainly feels as if it's a metal gun.
Metal parts such as the hammer, trigger, and cylinder give the pistol a
real-life-like aesthetic making it not only a great choice for
collectors but can even be used in film or cosplay as a prop!
The
trigger on this gun is a joy as the double action is smooth and direct,
pulling the trigger slowly feels buttery with no "grit" feeling at all.
When the hammer is pulled back, the trigger breaks soft and the sound
of the cylinder rotating exemplifies the effort Tanaka put in to make
this revolver a standout.
