A Glock Clone: Shadow Systems DR920FS (Foundation Series)

The Glock Gen 3 to this date is still the most popular iteration of the Glock series. Battle-proven and extremely robust, it is the second most customizable pistol platform in the world, with the first being the 1911. It is to no surprise that when Glock's foundational Gen 3 patents expired, other gun manufacturers took the chance to legally produce pistols based on this proven architecture without having to pay royalties. With a huge aftermarket support for the Gen 3 system, it's a no-brainer for manufacturers to put up their own version of the Gen 3 system, like Palmetto State Armory's Dagger series, and in this case, the Shadow Systems' DR920 series.

The Shadow Systems DR920 pistol series is designed with officers and service members in mind; the full-sized DR920 is a duty-ready pistol with features that are anything but basic. Designed to work with existing G17 holsters, magazines, and accessories. The DR920 frame features interchangeable backstraps, allowing the user to adjust the grip angle to fit their natural point of aim. The extended beavertail and aggressive trigger guard undercut give the shooter reactive recoil control, allowing for quick, accurate follow-up shots. The frame's wrap-around grip texture is aggressive enough to keep the gun firmly in the shooter's grip without being uncomfortable for daily wear.

The EMG Shadow Systems DR920FS is a fully licensed Airsoft pistol replica. The DR920FS is Shadow System's "Foundation Series", which is their standard entry-level model. The EMG Shadow Systems DR920FS utilizes VFC's latest Glock MOS GBB system, making it 90% compatible with existing VFC Glock aftermarket parts like the nozzle assembly (nozzle & piston head (MOS-Spec) except the blowback housing), hammer assembly (sear, hammer, disconnector, valve knocker), trigger assembly (trigger, trigger bar), internal frame assembly, barrel assembly (outer barrel, inner barrel, guide hop-up chamber), and front & rear sights. This makes the DR920FS a great base Airsoft gun platform to build upon with the already available plethora of aftermarket parts for the VFC G17 MOS system. VFC GBB Glock magazines are also compatible, making it very easy to find spare magazines for the DR920FS pistol.

The slide and outer barrel are of a full-metal Aluminum construction, making the gun highly durable and robust, while maintaining an overall lightweight profile. The slide also features wide-angled front and rear serrations that allow the user to perform slide manipulations with ease without being too aggressive, and is optic-ready out of the box, as it comes with two adapter plates. One for the Trijicon RMR footprint, and the other for the Leupold Delta Point Pro (DDP) Footprint (Both M3 Screw-Spec). The slide is also equipped with standard white dot front and blacked out rear sights.

The lower frame also features the same wrap-around grip texture, gas pedal cut, trigger guard undercuts, and interchangeable backstraps as the real-steel gun, giving the user a rock-solid grip purchase, even under adverse weather conditions. It is also equipped with a 20mm Picatinny under rail, allowing you to install accessories like weapon lights/laser units with ease.

Shooting the pistol feels really similar to that of VFC's Glock Gen 5 series, as it uses the same enlarged cylinder design. This gives the pistol a highly reactive, snappy cyclic action and stout recoil impulse. Overall, the EMG Shadow Systems DR920FS is a great entry-level Airsoft pistol that has huge upgrading potential. Important Notice: The nozzle assembly utilizes VFC's newest MOS spec, and is not compatible with the standard "non-MOS" nozzle/cylinder assembly. The recoil rod uses VFC's G19 Gen 5 specifications. Red dot mounting screws are not included and you will need to source your own M3-spec mounting screw.
