A lot of new Airsofters are usually very excited about Airsoft sniper rifles and their role as a sniper. But what's the sad truth? Airsoft sniping is challenging and not as glorious as the sniping you see in video games or movies. You’ll need sufficient training and learn what to expect from Airsoft sniping to get the most out of it. For those who enjoy shooting from long distances, it is very rewarding and feels great to be able to pick your enemies from 60 meters or more without knowing what hit them. It is not too difficult to grasp once you have a deeper understanding of how the sniper roles work. Just don’t expect to win any CQB games using a sniper rifle!

What to Look for in a co2 Airsoft Sniper?

When deciding what to use as your first co2 airsoft sniper rifle you have to consider co2 efficiency, how realistic it is, and options for adding tactical accessories. As with all co2 airsoft guns, it’ll require maintenance and upgrading if you want the best performance possible. Upgrading it allows you to shoot further which is what you want as a sniper, so means making sure that sniper rifle has after-market parts too. It is definitely not cost-effective as co2 capsules can be very expensive if you buy many of them compared to a battery. If you looking for a realistic co2 airsoft sniper or something for gaming with you have to keep that in mind, as there is no such thing as the perfect gun.

One thing most average joe would forget on the sniper rifle is a scope. The scope is another important accessory to add for a sniper as it allows one to see enemies from a distance compared to just using iron sights.

How Accurate is a co2 Airsoft Sniper?

Snipers shoot targets that are far away. Because the BB has to travel a very long distance, the sniper has to be very careful when taking aim. There are three main things that have an effect on the accuracy of the shot. You must plan ahead for these things.

  • The target may be moving, such as walking or running. You must think about where the target will be when the BB reaches it. A still target may suddenly move.

  • Force of gravity affects the BB, so that it will drop towards the ground. If the target is close, the effect of gravity does not have a big effect on accuracy. If it’s further, then the sniper must judge how high to shoot, to make up for the distance that the BB will fall as it flies.

  • Wind also affects the way in which a BB will travel and can blow it away from the target. A sniper must think about the direction that the wind is blowing and the strength of the wind. You might need to shoot to the left or the right of the target, to make up for the wind.

How Does a co2 Airsoft Sniper Work?

A co2 airsoft sniper is almost the same as its green gas counterpart, except that co2 is stored in a pressurized capsule in a mag, buttstock, or pistol grip. Whenever you squeeze that trigger, the knocker in the mag will hit the valve on the gas reservoir, causing it to release pressurized gas into the co2 gun. That co2 will start to push the BB out of the chamber to cause it to fire, then any remaining co2 will cause the pistol's slide to move backward. Thus the airsoft gun can load the second round for a follow-up shot, similar to how to real steel functions. Because it uses pressurized co2 as a power source, it can be used in cold temperatures but it’ll still drop fast due to high pressure regardless of what environment it’s in. If it’s shot too fast, a cool-down effect will occur resulting in a significant fps drop.

CO2 airsoft sniper rifles are powered by a removable CO2 cartridge usually based in the magazine or stock. CO2 offers higher pressure than green gas, giving greater power but also allows for stable operation in colder weather. CO2 airsoft snipers can either have a non-blowback (NBB) if they are bolt action or gas blowback style (GBB) of action for most magazine fed rifles.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) powers several types of airsoft guns, including CO2 airsoft pistols and airsoft sniper rifles. Many CO2 airsoft sniper rifles also fall under the category of airsoft gas blowback (GBBR) rifles (along with green gas-powered airsoft guns), as they replicate the recoil felt while using the real-steel variants. A CO2 airsoft sniper rifle provides players with several benefits, especially when it comes to the sniper role in gameplay.

What Is a CO2 Airsoft Sniper Rifle?

A CO2 airsoft sniper rifle is powered by CO2 cartridges that provide the muscle necessary to propel ammo out the muzzle and down range. Since CO2 has a higher pressure rating than green gas, it delivers the BBs with higher speed (measured in feet per second, or FPS). CO2 airsoft guns, including rifles, also perform better in colder temperatures compared to their green gas sniper rifle counterparts.

Sniper rifles come in several versions, including CO2, gas snipers, and spring, and there are many advantages of CO2 airsoft sniper rifles over airsoft spring-powered versions (often called “springers”).

For example, CO2 sniper rifles allow for quick return fire or follow-up shots, while springer sniper rifles require manual cocking before each shot. The downside is that if you run out of CO2, you are effectively defenseless. In theory, you can shoot endlessly with a springer sniper rifle (including bolt-action spring sniper rifle models) unless something breaks.

In terms of cost, CO2 airsoft sniper rifles are available for a range of budgets, from entry-level prices to the serious investments common among enthusiasts. Generally speaking, CO2 sniper rifles sit at a higher price tier than many entry-level springer sniper variants and airsoft automatic electric guns (AEGs). They’re relatively on par with green gas-powered airsoft platforms.

How Does a CO2 Airsoft Sniper Rifle Work?

A CO2 airsoft sniper rifle requires 12-gram CO2 capsules or cartridges to function. Most of the CO2 capsules that power CO2 airsoft sniper rifles are housed within the rifle magazines or somewhere in the stock. When pierced, these capsules allow CO2 to escape and propel the BBs down range at long-range distances.

Many CO2 airsoft sniper rifles are considered gas blowback, but non-blowback models also exist for magazine-fed rifles. These variants use a bolt-action setup instead.

Airsoft players getting into the sport can graduate from a springer airsoft sniper rifle to a CO2 airsoft sniper gun to experience the gas blowback or learn how a gas-powered airsoft gun works.

Players quickly learn when a CO2 capsule is getting low, as the speed tends to fall off as the gas is expelled. With practice, players can also learn how to remove and replace the spent CO2 capsules quickly.

How To Choose a CO2 Airsoft Sniper Rifle

Since the power source of CO2 airsoft sniper rifles is already set, most players distinguish between platforms based on several additional factors (as is often the case with grenade launchers, gas pistols, submachine guns or SMGs, airsoft shotguns, airsoft AEGs, and HPA guns).

Price is often top of the list, which also includes color (often black or tan) and brand (such as VFC, APS, Umarex, Novritsch, or CYMA). Players may choose historical CO2 airsoft sniper rifle replicas to suit their playing style or specific gaming styles such as mil-sim.

Your average CO2 airsoft sniper rifle starts at around $400 but can easily jump up in price based on internal parts, looks, and brand reputation. If you’re a do-it-yourself kind of airsoft player, investing in the best base platform that fits your style can help you establish a foundation for additional upgrades. Then, you can build the CO2 airsoft sniper rifle you want with quality aftermarket parts.

How To Upgrade a CO2 Airsoft Sniper Rifle

Similar to other airsoft platforms, CO2 airsoft sniper rifles feature a number of components that can easily be upgraded for better performance.

Although most CO2 airsoft sniper rifles perform decently out of the box, upgrading the internal components also ensures longevity and reliability. You can also add a bipod, scope, regulator, tactical gear, magazine pouches, or other external parts that may already be on your wishlist.

Below are a few of the most common CO2-powered airsoft sniper rifle upgrades — all of which are sold at RedWolf:

If there’s only one upgrade you make to your CO2 airsoft sniper rifle, go for the inner barrel before the outer barrel. Precision inner barrels can help your airsoft gun perform better, and they’re a great place to start if you want to upgrade other components as well.

Threaded barrel adapters can undoubtedly add to a tactical look (along with one of many available handguards), and the available cheek rests provide you with the ample room necessary for a solid cheek weld.

How does a CO2 Airsoft sniper work?

CO2 airsoft sniper rifles are powered by a compressed carbon dioxide cartridges located in the gun’s magazine or stock. When the shooter pulls the trigger he releases a hammer that strikes the gas release on the magazine or rifle’s firing pin which releases the CO2 and directs it to a nozzle to propel the airsoft BB out the gun and move the bolt if it is a GBB. It is important to note that CO2 delivers much higher pressure than green gas, giving greater power but also allows for stable operation in colder weather. It must however be noted that due to the extreme pressure of CO2 cartridges being a potential safety risk, parental supervision is advised for younger and less experienced shooters.

How much does a good CO2 Airsoft Sniper Rifle Cost?

What are the best CO2 Airsoft Sniper Rrifles?

Airsoft Sniper CO2 vs Spring Sniper?

CO2 airsoft sniper rifles have certain pros and cons compared to spring powered airsoft snipers. Whilst spring powered snipers excel in terms of FPS consistency, this comes at certain costs especially as higher power levels will require a stiffer spring which will lower the rate of fire and induce greater fatigue in the user from pulling a powerful spring for each shot. CO2 airsoft snipers do not suffer this issue as the bolt action merely has to load the next bb with no resistance, the downside however is that CO2 airsoft sniper rifles do require a separate CO2 cartridge to operate and that having the gas run out ingame presents a significant inconvenience to the user.
