FN SCAR

The FN SCAR is a family of gas-operated automatic rifles developed by Belgian manufacturer FN Herstal and first entered service in 2009. Designed specifically for use by Special Forces, the rifles come in both a ‘light’ model for firing 5.56x45mm NATO and a ‘heavy’ model capable of firing 7.62x51mm NATO ammunition; they also feature a high degree of modularity with both models being available in CQC, Standard and Long Barrel variants. The airsoft FN SCAR enjoys decent popularity and has been available from multiple brands for about a decade in both models, for the utmost realism you cannot go wrong with the Cybergun Airsoft SCAR H GBBR (by VFC) if you want an AEG then the Tokyo Marui Airsoft SCAR L CQC Next Generation (NGRS) is the one for you and for long range shooting there is the VFC MK20 Airsoft SCAR SSR GBB.

The FN SCAR Heavy airsoft rifle joins several other platforms (grenade launchers, airsoft pistols, sniper rifles, and airsoft shotguns) as replicas that borrow technology and designs from the real-steel world.

Players looking for a rifle platform that excels in close-quarter combat (CQB) but can also reach out longer distances often find the FN SCAR Heavy a viable option. Although it performs well straight from the factory, this airsoft FN also benefits from a respectable aftermarket following.

What Is an Airsoft FN SCAR Heavy?

The FN Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR) is a full-metal gas-operated gun developed by FN Herstal (a Belgian manufacturer). This semi-auto and full-auto platform first entered service in 2009.

As the name suggests, the FN SCAR was developed for use by the U.S. Special Forces and takes form in two variants: heavy (“H”) and light (“L”). Heavy models are chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO ammo, while light versions accept 5.56x45mm NATO rounds.

Additional features on the real-steel FN SCAR include a polymer lower, ambidextrous selector and magazine release buttons, and a reversible charging handle. FN SCARs are known for their robust internals, long-range accuracy, exceptional reliability, down-range power, and match-winning versatility. These rifles also excel in close-quarters combat (CQC) with standard and long-barrel variants.

Airsoft replicas of the FN SCAR carry over many of the same desirable features, including the H and L designations. On these FN Herstal-licensed airsoft guns, the letter corresponds to a different barrel length, with the lion’s share biased toward the H model.

Many airsoft manufacturers have added their own spin to the FN SCAR over the years, keeping up with the popularity among airsofters.

How To Upgrade an Airsoft FN SCAR Heavy

If you’re looking to get a tighter group of BBs at longer distances with your FN SCAR Heavy, upgrading your bucking, hop-up, tappet plate, nub, spring guides, inner barrel, or gearbox can help you achieve your goal. The quick-change spring can also help you find the best combination for your gameplay to hit your intended targets. Upgrades can also be about style — upgrading the color of your gun from black to tan (or FDE) can make you feel cool and confident, elevating your game.
