The Novritsch SSR90. However, most of us, whether you are a gamer who likes FPS games, firearms enthusiast, a fan of the classic Sci-Fi TV series Stargate SG-1, or if you are Tim (our past RWTV presenter) will fondly know this submachine gun as the P90 from FN Herstal. And you would be correct, as this airsoft P90 replica made by Novritsch is actually fully licensed by Cybergun and Fabrique Nationale Herstal.
The story of the original FN P90 started in 1986 when NATO requested a PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) system with an accompanying pistol for rear-echelon troops such as vehicle crews, operators of crew-served weapons and support personnel, troops that do not normally engage in front-line duties but also compact and deadly enough for special forces and counter-terror groups. This request was pushed out as the standard 9mm ammunition was not capable of punching through body armor, armor that is shown in most Soviet and Russian propaganda that is issued to most of their frontline troops. FN Herstal and Heckler & Koch answered this call, with H&K releasing their 4.6x30mm MP7 and FN in 1990 (Hence the P90 name) releasing the P90 and the Five-seveN pistol that is chambered in the 5.7x28mm armor-piercing round. Since NATO never really adopted both submissions, NATO countries independently adopted either the P90 or the MP7 according to their preference, the most notable user of the P90 is the United States Secret Service which uses this weapon to protect the POTUS (President of the United States of America)
All of this being said the P90 platform is no stranger to airsoft, with Tokyo Marui making an AEG of it and companies like King Arms and Classic Army copying Tokyo Marui's original design, later WE (also licensed by Cybergun) had a gas blowback version and not to mention Krytac which launched an AEG licensed by EMG and Cybergun just shortly before Novritsch launched his iteration of the airsoft P90 submachine gun. So what makes this P90 airsoft gun unique other than being a Novritsch gun?
Well, first of all, the Novritsch SSR90, just like every other Novritsch gun is pre-upgraded. This P90 airsoft gun's internals are of quality as you could expect from a Novritsch airsoft gun. First of all, accuracy. The "Novritsch level" accuracy of this airsoft P90 is maintained by having a 6.03mm precision inner barrel paired with a CNC constructed TDC style hop-up chamber that holds a custom Maple Leaf 60-degree hop-up bucking, allowing this airsoft P90 to run heavy BBs such as 0.32 grams with no issues. Speaking of Hop-up, the SSR90's Hop-up can be adjusted right above the hole that the thumb goes into.
Secondly, the speed. The Novritsch SSR90 has an ETU system installed, allowing for functions such as pre-cocking, 3-round burst, full-cycle control, battery protection, active braking, low battery indication, and of course binary trigger. All this is supported with 12:1 CNC steel gears and a 24K high-torque motor with super strong neodymium magnets, Do note that on its original setting, the Novritsch SSR90 has a trigger similar to the AUG, when on the full auto setting, pulling the trigger halfway will result in semi-auto while pulling it fully is full auto. So, this is all great and all, but to run with such accuracy and such speed for an extended period of time is gonna increase the wear and tear. Don't worry, Novritsch increased the durability of their SSR90 by giving it an 8mm bushing, a CNC aluminum piston head with a steel rack, and a CNC aluminum cylinder head with a rubber dampening pad to increase the durability and longevity of this P90 airsoft replica.
So, it has great internals, but most airsoft P90s (such as the Tokyo Marui and its clones) feel really plasticy, how does this fair? Being made of a modular aluminum receiver and a fiber-reinforced nylon body, the Novritsch SSR90 feels sturdy, arguably as sturdy as the Krytac EMG P90 electric submachine gun. The Novritsch SSR90 also boasts a rubberized buttpad giving users extra comfort while shouldering this P90 airsoft replica. Other than having great built quality, this Novritsch SSR90 just like most P90 airsoft replicas boasts fully ambidextrous controls, and as an added bonus, the Novritsch SSR90 also has QD sling points on both sides allowing for different slinging options.
Regarding compatibility, the Novritsch SSR90 is by far one of the most modular P90 airsoft replicas on the airsoft market. Having a modular receiver that allows for both M-LOK and Picatinny accessories allows the option for mounting accessories such as lights, lasers, optics, and PEQ boxes. The barrel of the SSR90 is 14mm CCW threaded, allowing for an assortment of muzzle devices such as tracer units or suppressors.
Finally, please note that the SSR90 that we currently carry is of the 1.4-1.6 joules version and it is recommended by Novritsch to use 11.1V batteries with 0.32 gram BBs for the best performance. Although that being said, the SSR90 does have a quick change spring system that allows users to change the power output of this P90 airsoft replica allowing for different field rules and engagement distances.
