Designed by Israeli Major Uziel Gal after the first Arab Israeli war and introduced in 1954, the Uzi submachine gun is easily one of the most iconic weapons of all time being a wildly popular Cold War submachine gun with over 10 million manufactured and exported to over 90 countries around the world. Featured in iconic movies such as The Terminator, The Matrix series However an airsoft Uzi has been surprisingly rare up until only recently with only the KWC Mini Airsoft Uzi being available for the past decade, thankfully Northeast has come with their stunning MP2A1 Airsoft Uzi GBB which offers incredible detail and craftsmanship. Having gained fame as a popular submachine gun during the Cold War era, the Uzi has also appeared in several well-known movies and video games. The compact platform works well in close-quarters battle (CQB) scenarios, including situations many players encounter on the airsoft field.

Although few airsoft manufacturers have taken up the Uzi legacy, hopefully, their renewed popularity will be the driving force behind putting airsoft Uzi guns into the hands of airsoft players from all backgrounds.

What Is an Uzi Gun?

The Uzi submachine gun and machine pistol lineup appears in several popular movies and video games, including The Terminator, The Matrix, several Grand Theft Auto variants, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. It has also entered U.S. history.

During the Ronald Reagan assassination attempt in 1981, a Secret Service agent was famously pictured holding an Uzi gun.

Named after designer Uziel Gal (nicknamed “Uzi”), an Israeli Major who served during the first Arab-Israeli War of 1948, the Uzi gun was patented in 1952 and introduced in 1954. Over 10 million Uzi guns of the original variant were manufactured and exported to over 90 countries.

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) no longer uses the Uzi gun in combat, but the IMI Uzi Pro (now produced under the name Israeli Weapon Industries (IWI)) continues the legacy with a 9x19mm submachine gun platform available in three different barrel lengths.

Uzi’s design is said to have been inspired by the Czech CZ25 submachine gun, but the profile is unmistakably characteristic. Several versions have been produced, including a pistol version that lacks a buttstock and mini and micro Uzis.

It’s made from stamped parts and easy to assemble, and it quickly made a name for itself as a Cold War submachine gun — and was even used by American Special Forces.

The Uzi gun has several advantages, from its rugged and reliable design to its short and compact footprint that resembles the MAC-10. Available in real-steel semi-automatic and (where legal) full-auto variants, the Uzi places the magazine near the middle of the platform, allowing for better balance. This semi-auto submachine gun also has three safeties: a bolt safety, a manual lever safety, and a grip safety.

What Are Some Popular Uzi Gun Models?

Despite a massive following, the Uzi gun isn’t as common in the airsoft world as you might think. Only the KWC Mini Airsoft Uzi has been available for the last decade, but the Northeast MP2A1 Airsoft Uzi GBB recently appeared on the scene.
