WHAT IS AN AIRSOFT REVOLVER?
Airsoft revolvers are one of the most interesting type of airsoft guns, and appeals to a special group of players who admire the beautiful lines of a six shooter. Airsoft revolvers are generally highly realistic replicas of a real revolver, and are constructed from plastic or metal. Most revolvers, with the exception of the classic Single Action Army S.A.A., have cylinders that can swing out for reloads. Some are single action while others are double action, with both modern and classic models widely represented. While airsoft revolvers are available in gas, CO2 and spring models, we have deliberately chosen not to offer airsoft revolver spring models since they struggle to deliver usable power for gaming purposes.
Popular models include the ASG Dan Wesson Airsoft Revolver CO2 line, famous for their hefty full metal construction and high power. The Colt Python Airsoft Revolver is also widely available in different variations ranging from snub nose airsoft revolvers to 6 inch barrels. The classic Smith & Wesson airsoft revolvers are represented by the M10 and M19 by Tanaka Works. One interesting model is the Chiappa Rhino airsoft revolver, which offers a much more contemporary interpretation of the revolver. For anime fans, the Mateba airsoft revolver from the series Ghost In A Shell is a collectible model that is a must have. Serious collectors who look for rare and bespoke models should not miss the Airsoft Surgeon revolver collection.

An airsoft revolver replicates the traditional real-steel revolver footprint, complete with a frame and rotating cylinder. Most airsoft revolvers are powered by airsoft gas (green gas or CO2) or a lipo battery.
Players often use airsoft revolvers in close-quarters realistic gameplay or as a backup weapon for a sniper rifle.
What Is an Airsoft Revolver?
Airsoft revolvers are one of the most interesting types of airsoft guns that appeal to a special group of players who admire the beautiful lines of a six-shooter. Generally highly realistic replicas of real revolvers, airsoft revolvers are constructed from plastic or metal. Most airsoft revolvers, except for the classic Colt Single Action Army (S.A.A.), have cylinders that swing out for reloads.
Airsoft revolvers can be single- or double-action, with modern and classic models widely represented. While gas, CO2, and spring airsoft revolvers exist, spring-powered airsoft revolvers are considered least desirable. These airsoft revolvers struggle to deliver usable power for airsoft gaming purposes, so they’re more for show than anything else. High-pressure air (HPA) airsoft revolvers are simply unheard of.
In the real-steel world, revolvers predated modern handguns from popular names like Glock, Walther, and Beretta. However, like many Hi-Capa airsoft pistols, airsoft rifles, and airsoft shotgun variants, airsoft revolvers cater to a distinct playing style that favors close combat.
What Platforms Are Available for Airsoft Revolvers?
Airsoft revolvers are available in gas, CO2, and spring platforms. The most popular are gas and CO2 airsoft revolvers, since there’s no space inside a revolver to hide a gearbox, spring, hop-up, bucking, nozzle, or piston of any kind, like what you’d find on an automatic electric gun (AEG).
Spring-powered revolvers exist, but they’re more akin to toys since they rely on the impact of a hammer’s striker against the BB to propel it out. The power of a spring revolver is also extremely low, insufficient for any kind of serious range or accuracy.
Modern alternatives to airsoft revolvers include gas blowback airsoft pistols, AEG pistols, spring airsoft pistols, and CO2 airsoft pistols. Gas airsoft pistols that generate recoil as they fire airsoft BBs are referred to as gas blowback or GBB, but non-blowback models are available. Both airsoft pistols and revolvers feature pistol grips and fit into holsters at your side.
How Much Does an Airsoft Revolver Cost?
The price range for airsoft revolvers is quite large, extending from die-cast models under $100 to mid-range airsoft revolvers in the $200 to $500 range. You can’t really go wrong with any of these offerings, since the design of airsoft revolvers is simpler and trouble-free compared to semi-automatic airsoft pistols, for example.
If you have more money to spend, you can get into beautiful replicas like those by Tanaka Works, with more refined details. Note that Japanese revolvers are made out of plastic as required by law, but Tanaka Works and Marushin have amazing surface finishes to make them look more realistic. You can also find rare, limited-edition models within a higher price range, often achieving collector status.
Truly unique and one-of-a-kind airsoft revolvers will set you back over $1,000, with custom pieces like those from Airsoft Surgeon topping the list. Some of these masterpieces sport CNC steel and aluminum components to offer a new level of realism and refinement.
