The SIG Sauer M17 and M18 are the standard issue sidearm of the United States Armed Forces. Introduced in 2017 as the winner of the Army's XM17 Modular Handgun System competition and adapted from the SIG Sauer P320, full-sized model was designated the M17 while the shorter length carry model was designated the M18. Like the P320 the M17/18 utilizes a striker fired system and features full ambidextrous controls, however unlike its standard predecessor, the M17/18 is only chambered in 9x19mm parabellum and features an ambidextrous thumb safety and a slide cut to facilitate the addition of a reflex sight.
