A spouse of the Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle program, the FN SCAR family was developed provide a rifle for US SOCOM with modular options, allowing SOCOM operators to tailor their rifles to suit their operational requirements. One such result was the Mk 20 SSR rifle, a designated marksman rifle variant thats an enhanced, elongated variant of the Mk 17 Long Barrel, with a strengthened barrel and handguard profile to reduce recoil and improve accuracy, along with a configurable single-stage or two-stage trigger option and an optional precision stock.
Manufactured by VFC, they faithfully replicate the Mk 20 in its AEG form, utilising CNC aluminium and polymer components to imitate the rifle. It features its iconic 13.7-in monolithic upper handguard, with quad Picatinny rail interface for the mounting of optics and peripheral accessories, along with an 18-in outer barrel with 14mm CCW threading for the installation of alternate muzzle devices or tracer units. Behind is a functional, interswappable charging handle that aids in charging the bolt, exposing an adjustable hop unit to increase or decrease the BB hop on the fly. For its fire controls, it features the traditional SCAR fire controls, with an added benefit of the mag release and the 30 degree selector being ambidextrous, allowing access to the Safe-Semi-Auto selection from both sides of the gun. Further back is an adjustable ugg style SCAR stock, with 6 point of adjustment for stock length and 2 points of cheek height adjustment, providing enhanced shooters comfort. At its core, the rifle features a VFC v2 gearbox, reinforced with CNC steel gears for prolonged durability and a spring auto-shim system to achieve optimal internal performance. Along with an upgrade spring guide, light weight polycarbonate piston and airtight cylinder, the VFC gearbox is a great performer and provides decent performance out of the box.
As a boneyard rifle, this Mk. 20 features some worn scratches and does not come with the VFC SCAR H AEG mag, but still performs fine.
