I bought this because I didn't want to have to cock the gun for each shot. It's battery operated so you can just pull the trigger for each shot without needing to cock it. The cycling action is a novelty and doesn't really provide any kind of recoil. The gun is also all plastic so it's pretty light. But it does the job at this price, and is safe for my kids to shoot at each other.
