AIRSOFT FAMAS

The FAMAS (Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne) is a bullpup assault rifle designed and manufactured in France by MAS and entering service with the French Armed Forces in 1978. Using a lever delayed blowback action in a bullpup configuration, the FAMAS is well known for its very high rate of fire at 1,100 rounds per minute. In service the FAMAS is known by French troops as Le Clairon (The Bugle) due to its distinctive shape and has seen limited service overseas primarily amongst Francophone countries such as Cameroon, Gabon, Chad and Djibouti. The airsoft FAMAS is made by only one brand, Tokyo Marui which holds the distinction of the FAMAS airsoft gun being the first airsoft AEG ever made The FAMAS airsoft gun comes in two variants, the Tokyo Marui Airsoft FAMAS 5.56 F1 AEG Rifle and the Tokyo Marui Airsoft FAMAS SV AEG Rifle, both airsoft FAMAS rifles are functionally identical apart from cosmetic differences such as the handguard and bipod being different on each airsoft FAMAS variant.

Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne, otherwise known as FAMAS, incorporates a bullpup rifle design into an automatic electric gun (AEG) platform.

Tokyo Marui produced two similar yet cosmetically different models, which have since been discontinued. However, if you can find a used Tokyo Marui FAMAS airsoft gun, you can experience for yourself what it means to fire one of these historical airsoft replicas.

What Is a FAMAS Airsoft Gun?

FAMAS stands for Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne. The French gun manufacturer Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne (MAS) designed and produced the real-steel FAMAS bullpup assault rifle, which entered service with the French Armed Forces in 1978. Due to its distinctive shape, it’s known among the French troops as Le Clairon, or “The Bugle.”

Despite seeing limited service overseas in places like Cameroon, Gabon, Chad, and Djibouti, this French bullpup featured a lever-delayed blowback action. It was also capable of a high rate of fire, up to 1,100 rounds per minute. FAMAS is now the standard infantry rifle for the French military and appears on many foreign airsoft fields as an airsoft AEG.

How Does a FAMAS Airsoft Gun Work?

The bullpup design of this airsoft rifle places the weapon's action behind the trigger. This placement allows the gun to use a longer barrel to improve accuracy without adding to the overall length. Moving everything backward also enables the FAMAS airsoft gun to remain compact and ready for any CQB skirmishes.

The FAMAS airsoft bullpup features a semi-auto and full-auto fire selector to determine how fast you’ll shoot airsoft BBs down range. However, these airsoft AEGs don’t account for adding any scopes or flashlights to the mix. Tuning the FAMAS airsoft gun requires adjusting the hop-up within the lightweight polymer body.

The Tokyo Marui FAMAS 5.56 F1 Airsoft AEG Rifle and the FAMAS SV Airsoft AEG Rifle function similarly to your standard AEG rifle and feature a pistol grip. The metal gearbox inside is battery-powered and operates the internals with each trigger pull. Charge your lipo batteries before each airsoft game to ensure you have enough charge.

How To Choose a FAMAS Airsoft Gun

Tokyo Marui is the only brand that produces the airsoft equivalent of The Bugle. The popular brand created two variants, the FAMAS SV Airsoft AEG Rifle and the FAMAS 5.56 F1 Airsoft AEG Rifle. Both are functionally identical, apart from a few cosmetic differences (minus the fire modes). For example, the handguard and bipod differ between the two, along with the shape of the outer barrel. Inside, they hold the same inner barrels, hop-up, bucking, and nozzle.

The FAMAS airsoft rifles slot in between your typical airsoft gas blowback (GBB) pistol and airsoft rifle or sniper rifle. Similar to other bullpup rifles, they share that tactical look, complete with a flash hider. These AEG rifles may not be as powerful or have the FPS of an HPA setup, but they can just as easily fling ammo down range.

Popular FAMAS Airsoft Gun Models

Although Tokyo Marui has discontinued the following FAMAS airsoft guns, they may still be available second-hand. Before you add either one to your wish list, note that both of the Tokyo Marui FAMAS guns have a full-metal trigger and barrel assembly.

Additional features on each airsoft gun include the following:

  • Tokyo Marui FAMAS 5.56 F1 Airsoft AEG Rifle: First to arrive on the scene, the FAMAS F1 incorporates an integrated folding bipod.
  • Tokyo Marui FAMAS SV Airsoft AEG Rifle: Sequel to the F1, the FAMAS SV features a few design changes to the trigger guard and a few other minor details. Like the F1, you must install an adapter if you want to add a suppressor on the end, as the muzzle isn’t threaded.
