AIRSOFT MINIGUN

AIRSOFT MINIGUN

Initially developed by General Electric, the term minigun is now used to refer to any externally powered rotary gun firing a rifle caliber bullet.  Real steel miniguns offer a significant advantage over regular machineguns thanks to their extremely high rate of fire, and the same holds true for the airsoft minigun.  Only several manufacturers have risen to the challenge of making fully functioning airsoft minigun, starting with Craft Apple Works (CAW)'s mechanically advanced electric M134 airsoft minigun where some of these were sold in late 2010 under the Echo1 airsoft brand.  Classic Army also makes a very impressive and more affordable M133 airsoft minigun that is lighter and more portable for taking into games.  Whichever of the airsoft miniguns you choose, your opponents are guaranteed to run for cover.

An airsoft gun capable of sustaining an impressive 3,000-rounds-per-minute (RPM) full autorate of fire hardly needs an introduction. The airsoft minigun certainly makes a remarkable first impression with its rotating barrel assembly, chainsaw-style carrying handle, and striking ability to hurl airsoft BBs down range.

If you haven’t already added an airsoft minigun to your collection, chances are you’ll find an empty spot for it after spending a few minutes basking in this bestseller’s epic glory.

What Is an Airsoft Minigun?

Like many other great airsoft pistols, sniper rifles, grenade launchers, and other platforms, the airsoft minigun replicas on the market today resemble the real-steel miniguns of America’s history.

The 10-barreled, hand-driven Gatling gun of the Civil War, capable of shooting 20 rounds per second or up to 1,200 per minute, sparked the desire to send bucket loads of ammo down range toward the enemy. Decades later, the real-steel minigun resurfaced once more under the supervision of General Electric.

Airsoft miniguns draw on the concept of increasing the number of successful hits with a sustained multi-round rate of fire. It’s the same reason many airsoft rifles incorporate full-auto firing modes. Line up the airsoft minigun next to any airsoft submachine gun (SMG), and you’ll quickly understand the fun of a high rate of full-auto fire — and the true beauty of an airsoft minigun.

If you’re asking yourself what practical applications an airsoft minigun has on the field, you’re almost missing the point of such a specimen. Most players run an airsoft minigun for the same reason that action heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stop the bad guys and save the day — because they can. Whether you appreciate the sheer power an airsoft minigun wields or the novelty of such a platform, the draw is undeniable.

Put yourself in the shoes of your opponents for a moment. Consider what you must feel as you stare down an airsoft minigun with four or five barrels lobbing BBs toward you faster than you can process. Such an intimidating display — with the promise of hundreds more BBs coming your way — is enough to force anyone to retreat. However, it also marks the minigun operator out of a crowd and paints a target on their back.

How Does an Airsoft Minigun Work?

Simply put, an airsoft minigun feeds ammo through multiple barrels that rotate as they fire. Yet such an understated explanation glosses over the innovative mechanics and intricate play between an airsoft minigun’s internal components.

A lot more goes into designing and developing an airsoft minigun than meets the eye. If that’s not enough to convince you, consider how many (or should we say how few) airsoft manufacturers actually produce a minigun platform — and how much they cost.

Currently, only Craft Apple Works (CAW), Classic Army, and WELL PRO sell airsoft miniguns. CAW sold a few miniguns under the name Echo1 a while back, but the list of manufacturers remains short. And unless you’re an avid airsofter with one of everything in your collection, the price of an airsoft minigun often sits well above most budgets.

Model specifics will vary, but for all intents and purposes, airsoft miniguns draw power from two lipo batteries or a hybrid combination of a lipo battery and gas, such as CO2 or green gas

When using a hybrid power supply, the gas propels the BBs down range, while the lipo battery controls the gun’s other electronic components. It’s important to note that airsoft miniguns will fire BBs even if the batteries are unplugged, so keeping it muzzled with a barrel bag will help reduce any potential arguments or injuries.

A motor within the airsoft minigun times when BBs fire out of each barrel based on a cam system. Each barrel features an individual hop-up you can easily adjust to narrow your shot group.

Most airsoft miniguns feature multiple rates of fire, so you can choose how quickly you run out of ammo. For the most part, airsoft miniguns work like any other AEG with a gearbox, just with more flair.

How To Upgrade an Airsoft Minigun

Due to their proprietary design, upgrade parts for airsoft miniguns are limited. You won’t need holsters, bipods, backpacks, pistol grips, or shells like you would with airsoft shotguns, gas blowback pistols, or HPA platforms. However, you can upgrade a few components in addition to a solid battery charger.

Since you can access the nozzles and hop-ups for each barrel, swapping them out for an upgraded version can help tighten your shot groups, increase FPS, and better target your opponents. If you’re brave enough to take your minigun apart to access the inner barrels, you can also swap them for tight-bore versions to increase accuracy.

We also carry the following accessories and replacement parts:

Installing a tracer unit on each barrel of an airsoft minigun may seem impractical, but not with the Classic Army M133 Luminous Bomb Illuminator. This internal tracer unit only adds to the intimidation factor of this airsoftblaster.

Popular Airsoft Minigun Models

The Classic Army M133 Mini Vulcan Rotating Multi-Barrel Airsoft AEG, WELL PRO M134 Mini Vulcan Rotating GatlingAirsoft AEG, and Classic Army M132 Micro GunAEGAirsoft comprise the ranks of airsoft miniguns currently in production. The WELL PROairsoft minigun features five barrels, while Classic Army’s versions stick to four. Unlike The M132 and M133, the M134 also incorporates quick-detach sling points for support during operation.

Unlike the Classic Army M133 Mini Vulcan Rotating Multi-Barrel Airsoft AEG, the M132 Micro Gun relies on a hybrid system (battery and gas) for power. You’d practically need Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s muscles to heft the 10-pound behemoth during battle as he did in The Fast and the Furious franchise.

Compared to the higher-priced Classic Army M133 Mini Vulcan Rotating Multi-Barrel Airsoft AEG, the M132 Micro Gun also morphs into a slightly different design configuration in terms of grip placement.

If you prefer to feel more like T-800 in the Terminator series, we’re almost positive Schwarzenegger would approve of the Classic Army M133 Mini Vulcan Rotating Multi-Barrel Airsoft AEG. With a mix of metal internals and nylon fiber-reinforced polymer components, the M133 Mini Vulcan operates like a well-oiled machine. Two lipo batteries provide power via a Dean’s connector to do your dirty work as you shoot up to 50 rounds per second.

RedWolf stocks several of the bestairsoft miniguns, including the models mentioned above. If you ever get a chance to test out an airsoft minigun, take full advantage and start saving up now. The delight you feel wielding this powerhouse will be worth the effort.
