The Real Steel VSS (Russian: Винтовка Снайперская Специальная, Vintovka Snayperskaya Spetsialnaya or "Special Sniper Rifle"), also called the Vintorez ("thread cutter"), is a suppressed sniper rifle that uses a heavy subsonic 9×39 mm SP-5 cartridge. It was developed in the late 1980s. It is issued primarily to Spetsnaz units for undercover or clandestine operations.
It's probably the most well known sniper rifle in many computer games in the past couple of years. It hasn't been in many movies, but when you notice the VSS, you think about the games that used it.
It's made out of Aluminium, plastic and real wood and weighs just as much as the real steel version which feels great. As cool as it would be if it were a GBBR, the AEG is version is the coolest looking, retro AK/Dragunov styled rifle out there. The thick barrel adds to it's beauty.
It has a decent rate of fire and can easily switch from semi to full auto with a flick of the switch behind the trigger and you can find the safety on the right side. You store the battery in the barrel but to remove it, you'll to press a button underneath the barrel, close to the receiver and then left up the outer barrel.
