Tokarev Pistol
TT Pistol AIRSOFT
The TT-30, commonly known simply as the Tokarev, is an out-of-production Soviet semi-automatic pistol. It was developed in 1930 by Fedor Tokarev as a service pistol for the Soviet military to replace the Nagant M1895 revolver that had been in use since the Russian Empire, though it ended up being used in conjunction with, rather than replacing the M1895, Serving until 1952 when it was replaced by the Makarov pistol. While the Tokarev was replaced in 1952, copies, clones and variants continued to be made and be used by over 50 countries mainly on the Eastern bloc during and after the Cold War. The airsoft Tokrev occupies a notable niche in the market with models such as the WE Airsoft Tokarev TT33 Green Gas Pistol - Silver, the KSC Norinco Type 54 Early Clone Heavy Weight GBB Airsoft Pistol and the Tanaka Tokarev TT-33 Heavy Weight Model Gun.

The Tokarev pistol is an iconic semi-auto Soviet Union handgun used by the Russians until the Makarov pistol came along. Several Eastern European countries produced their own versions of the Tokarev pistol, including North Korea and Nazi Germany.
In airsoft, the Tokarev makes for a historically accurate backup pistol perfect for military simulation (mil-sim) games.
What is a Tokarev Pistol?
Gunsmith Fedor Tokarev developed the Tokarev semi-automatic pistol in 1930 to replace the Mosin Nagant M1895 revolver, which the Soviet military had used for some time.
Ultimately, the Tokarev joined the Nagant in service rather than take its place. The Makarov replaced the Tokarev in 1952, but not before about 1.7 million were produced.
When looking at Tokarev pistols, you might encounter “TT-30,” which stands for Tula-Tokarev 1930, or the TT-33. The Tokarev TT-33 pistol was produced by Russia during and after the Cold War, mainly in the Eastern Bloc.
More than 50 countries — including Poland, China, Hungary, North Korea, Yugoslavia, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Romania — produced versions of the Tokarev, and some even have their own designations:
- Nazi German = Pistole 615(r)
- Chinese = Type 51 or Type 54
- Yugoslavian = M57
- North Korean = Type 68
It’s said Tokarev’s design was inspired by the FN Model 1903 and Colt’s popular M1911 pistols. The single-action pistol has a locked breech and a short recoil mechanism and fires 7.62x25mm rounds from an eight-round magazine, but Tokarev also produced 9x19mm models.
Although the real-steel Tokarev is an iconic historical pistol, it suffers in accuracy due to a low magazine capacity and limited effective range.
What Are Some Popular Tokarev Pistol Models?
While there are several TT-30 and TT-33 airsoft pistols to choose from, the top three include variants from KSC, WE, and Tanaka:
- WE Airsoft Tokarev TT33 Green Gas Pistol: This full-metal Tokarev airsoft pistol has a removable full-size magazine, crisp blowback, and full-travel slide cycling.
- KSC Norinco Type 54 Early Clone Heavy Weight GBB Airsoft Pistol: The Type 54 designation indicates this Tokarev is of Chinese descent. It features a realistic weight, KSC System7 gas system, and adjustable hop-up.
- Tanaka Tokarev TT-33 Heavy Weight Model Gun: This heavy-weight Tokarev model may be non-firing, but it comes with dummy rounds that actually load and eject — just without the typical airsoft or real-steel experience you’d expect.
If you’re looking for something a little more tricked-out, the KSC TT33 Persona 5 Joker Model HW mirrors the one in SEGA’s Persona 5 video game. For more stealth on the airsoft field, the KSC TT33 Ribcut Custom Heavy Weight Gas Blow Back Pistol is lower-profile, with lightening cuts on the slide for dramatic flair.
