In the real steel world, the Close Quarters Battle Receiver (CQBR) is a replacement upper receiver for the M4A1 Carbine. The CQBR replaces the M4 with a 10.3 inch barrel making it the modern equivalent of the Colt Commando short-barrel M16 variants of the past. The CQBR entered American armed forces service in 2000, the complete CQBR equipped carbine has been type-classified as the Mk 18 Mod 0.
The purpose of the Mk 18 Mod 0 is to provide operators with a weapon of submachine gun size, but firing a rifle cartridge, for scenarios such as VIP protection, urban warfare, and other close quarters battle (CQB) situations. In Airsoft terms, the shorter, more compact layout allows you to make use of the full advantages of the M4s choice of accessories, magazines and modifications in package to rival sub-machine guns in agility.
Using it as-is, its low-to-mid power makes it appropriate for indoor use. You can compliment the weapon further by using only low and mid cap magazines to avoid the slow-winding nature of hi-caps. You can customize the ergonomics to better suit your tastes; you can swap out the furniture for colored variants and add the same color rail covers to the front end to dual-tone your weapon. You might even look into stepping up the rate of fire significantly by switching to an 11.1v LiPo battery by having it re-wired installed into the stock tube.
The Mk 18 Mod 0 is a fantastic choice for someone looking to combine all the potential of an M4 family weapon with the mobility of an SBR (short barrel rifle).
