The UMP is a blowback operated magazine fed submachine gun firing from a closed bolt. It was specifically designed to fire larger calibers than other submachine guns like the MP5 to provide more stopping power on unarmored targets. Because of the larger caliber, the recoil of the UMP is significantly higher than the standard 9mm rounds. To counter this, the cyclic rate of fire was reduced to a mere 600rds/minute on the .45cal version. This slower rate of fire makes the UMP one of the slowest submachine guns on the market; nevertheless the UMP is regarded to be a very reliable and useful submachine gun. The UMP is currently under use by the special forces groups of over 10 countries World-wide.

The Ares UMP and its magazine is constructed entirely from FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymers) and feels incredibly sturdy. Sporting steel 20mm Picatinny rails on the upper receiver and on the bottom of the hand guard you can be sure that any optics or accessories you mount on your UMP, it will stay on your UMP! The mid-cap magazine sports a clear panel on its left face showing off its dummy brass .45cal rounds. The ARES UMP also weighs very realistically; at 2500g it weighs only 200g heavier than its real steel counterpart (Without Magazine). Instead of the old contact switches that other manufacturers often use, the ARES UMP uses a micro switch to facilitate in shooting, therefore increasing the life span of your trigger mechanism, and allowing you to fire on semi more often than before.

The ARES UMP features a very simple but effective battery compartment easily accessible from behind the ergonomically comfortable folding stock with rubber cheek and shoulder pads; whilst the hop-up adjuster can be accessed by sliding the cocking handle back to open the spring loaded dust-cover. Because the cocking handle is made from FRP as well, you can now HK Slap the cocking handle as much as you like without worrying that it may snap off! The body of the ARES UMP also features very realistic markings from the original manufacturers as well as its own unique serial number.
